Piano concerto will make Michigan debut

A piano concerto by the Traverse Symphony Orchestra will receive its Michigan debut on Sunday, Oct. 21 at Corson Auditorium, located at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Composer Lowell Liebermann wrote Piano Concerto No. 3 in response to a joint commissioning by 18 orchestras, of which TSO is the sole Michigan representative. The concert received its national premiere last season by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.

Pianist Jeffrey Biegel will be the featured soloist and music director Kevin Rhodes will conduct the performance, which will also feature Sibelius’ Swan of Tuonela and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.

The concert, which begins at 3 p.m., will include a talk by Rhodes about one hour before the performance begins. Only a few tickets for the show remain and can be ordered by calling 947-7120.
