St. Mary parish in Lake Leelanau will host an informational session about end-of-life issues on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Dr. Tom and Beth Nussdorfer of Munson Healthcare will discuss a “five wishes” document that can be prepared to let loved ones know the intentions and preferences of those in care.
A recent national survey indicated that 85 percent of Americans wish to die at home surrounded by loved ones, preferably in their sleep. Yet statistics show that only 20 percent of these people will get their wish.
Those attending the program will learn more about the “five wishes” form, and receive a copy of the document and assistance in its completion. The Rev. Michael Jankowski, pastor of St. Mary parish, will also be present to answer questions from the Catholic perspective.
There is no charge to attend the session, sponsored by the St. Mary School Endowment Foundation. However, to ensure handouts and forms for all attendees, registration is appreciated and can be done by calling 256-9670, ext. 500.
The program will start at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the church social hall, following the 7 p.m. Mass.
