Minutes

The Special Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Soderholm at 9:30 AM in the Glen Arbor meeting room. Purpose of meeting was to review and approve the operating and capital budget for the Fire Department for the coming year starting April 1, 2008, secondly, to set the millage to support the budget, and third, to set millage requirements to cover debt service. Board members present; Soderholm, Quick, Gretzema, and Kelly. Thompson, absent.

Soderholm asked for any proposed changes – none to report. Kelly asked about interest income increase. Gretzema reports that we are investing longer and better interest rates. Motion to approve 2008-09 Emergency Services budget by Gretzema, support Kelly. Motion carried.

Motion to approve a 2.73 millage request (1.99 mills Operating Expense, 0.74 mills Capital Appropriations) by Quick, second Gretzema. This is an 8.6% reduction from last year’s 2.99 mills. Motion carried.

Motion to approve a 3.034 millage request for Building Debt Service Gretzema, second Kelly. This is a 4.80% increase from last year’s 3.280 mills. Motion carried.

This is an overall millage reduction of 7.50%.

Gretzema said we should concentrate this next year on targeting a figure for the fund balance goal. Soderholm concurs and states that the Township may have some funds that could be used to offset the costs of next year’s millage. It was consensus, however, that the 08-09 budget is good and should remain as approved.
