Arty Party hosted by Bingham couple

Chuck and Donna Johnston of Bingham Township are opening their home for the eighth straight year for the "Arty Party", an art show scheduled for Oct. 24-27.

Donna will open her multi-media studios to display her one-of-a-kind pottery, handmade paper art, watercolors and prints as well as felt purses.

Longtime friends and fellow teachers, David and Shirley Kaemming from Pleasant Lake, Mich., will be showing unique collages, mosaic mirrors, ceramics, birdhouses and paintings. Lee Smith from Country Christmas will have new ornaments made especially for the occasion.

Darla Raney has designed new quilted jackets and will have her polished rock knobs and stone lamps. Also contributing to the “party” will be retired photographer Bayard Lawes; doctor and woodcarver BJ Harmon; glass artists Kathy and Guy Schmitz from Cedarburg, Wis.; and bookmaker Donna Brakel, a Traverse City teacher.

Each year, the group has sponsors a silent auction to benefit a local charity. This year’s auction will benefit the hospice house of Traverse city and the art therapy program run by Dr. Barbara McIntyre.

The Arty Party opens Wed., Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will continue with the same hours Thursday and Friday, Oct. 25 and 26. On Saturday, the event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Colorful signs will be posted at intersections near Bingham and Lakeview Roads to provide direction.
