match at Glen Lake on Tuesday.

At Benzie coach Sue Flowers said her young team nearly put together a match win against a conference foe.

“We came close, but Benzie is a good team and stopped us with a good defense. They didn’t let much hit the floor,” Flowers said.

Dani Frost had 4 kills, 7 digs, and 2 aces on 11-for-11 serving to lead Glen Lake. Leaha Carey had 4 kills, 9 digs, 3 aces; Mandy Brown had 2 kills, 11 digs, 2 aces on 10-for-10 serving; and Heather Flowers had 15 assists, 10 digs.

The Lakers put together solid play and scoring techniques to win at Manistee. “The girls were communicating, getting the ball to the right hitters at the right time. They all just played really well,” she said.

The Comets competed at the Ferris State University tournament on Saturday, but no results from those matches were made available.

Northport volleyball coach Kristi Fischer lacked her usual stat helper at the Benzie tournament Saturday, so she could not provide match scores. “We played some very tough teams, Pentwater, Big Rapids Crossroads Academy, Benzie, Kingsley, T-C Christian. We were close in those matches, scored lots of points, but didn’t win any,” she said.

For the day Kelly Fischer had 42 assists, 4 kills, 11 aces to lead Northport. Betsy Shiner had 10 aces, 16 kills; Octavia Buss had 8 aces, 7 kills; Kristina Leabo had 7 aces, 20 kills; Shauna Sitarek had 13 assists; Mariah Crowgey had 26 assists; and Emily Stowe had 16 kills, 6 aces.
