Erin Q. Hartman, long-time Suttons Bay resident, has released a book about growing up on the "sunrise side" of Michigan.

ERIN. Q. HARTMAN of Suttons Bay
holds a copy of Hope for Carsonville:
A Daughter’s Memoir.
Hope for Carsonville: A Daughter’ s Memoir is a series of vignettes of family life from the point of view of the author when she was a child and the next-to-youngest of 12 siblings with an “unforgettable set of parents.”
Her late grandmother, Hope Quinlan, is the book’s main character. The family’s poverty is a hardship, and other tragedies come into their lives, but the book tells how Quinlan and her husband Bill brought imagination and invention into making decisions at their home in Carsonville, which is located in the Thumb in Sanilac County.
When Arbutus Press accepted the manuscript for publication, Northport bookseller Pamela Grath was Hartman’s editor.
“Erin has an extraordinary memory for detail and a rare gift for being able to recount her childhood as she experienced it, without the judgment of hindsight getting in the way,” said Grath.
Hartman will be at Dog Ears Books in Northport, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. to read from her book and sign copies. Refreshments will be served.
