The county Commission on Aging voted to file for incorporation as a non-profit corporation, apparently in response to a County Board decision last month not to start plans for a new senior citizens center. Some $40,000 had been budgeted for the project.

Salaries within the just-approved County Budget were set at $15,470 for the Sheriff ($13,660); $14,778 for the prosecuting attorney ($12,730); and $13,426 for the treasurer, register of deeds and clerk ($11,843). Salaries were unchanged at $3,000 for the County Board chairman and $2,500 for board members.

The board of supervisors this week set Jan. 26, 1952, as the date for a special election to decide whether the county shall build and maintain a convalescent hospital as an addition to the infirmary near Maple City.

Supervisor Elmer Billman of Solon, chairman of the ways and means committee, said it appears almost certain that the next county budget, to go into effect January 1, will have to be about 20 percent higher to cover rising costs of operations.

Some 225 persons voted Friday night in a community-wide meeting at Northport in favor of launching a drive to raise $150,000 to build and equip a 20 bed-hospital at Northport to serve the northern half of Leelanau County.

Prof. Sam O. Cooley, Editor of Suttons Bay Bazzoo, in the last issue of his paper failed to say that he had a hand in helping clean the chimney at the Bazzoo store. Guess he didn’t want any one to know that he is an expert chimney sweep. Sam is a hustler both in editorial work and at chimneys but his hand seems to fit better at the latter. W.H.W.

The game of ball on Sunday last at Good Harbor between the Suttons Bay Indians and the Glen Haven nine resulted in a victory for the Glen Haven team by a score of 21 to 16.
