G-L football team whips Baldwin to finish year 3-6.
Six different seniors scored for Glen Lake Friday when the Lakers wrapped up their 2007 schedule with a 34-6 win over Baldwin.
“It was a great game,” coach Bill Hollenbeck said of his team’s third victory of the season. “We started slow, but as time wore on we got better. It was fun.”
Only a 1-point loss to Milwaukee Marshall on Oct. 19 prevented the Lakers from winning their last three games of the season.
Jack Drow came into his own with his best performance of the season by rushing 16 times for 142 yards.
“Jack had a great night,” Hollenbeck said. “You could really see the confidence he played with offensively.”
The Lakers drove 49 yards in seven plays on their first possession to get on the board with a 4-yard scoring pass from quarterback Nate Sneed to Ryan Dyksterhouse. Matt Rinehart’s extra point put Glen Lake ahead gave Glen Lake a 7-0 lead.
Just 41 seconds later, senior Pat Deering’s 1-yard touchdown run and Rinehart’s point-after put Glen Lake ahead, 14-0. Later in the same period, Eric Henry got into the scoring act with a 2-yard touchdown that increased the Lakers’ lead to 20-0.
Glen Lake’s senior celebration continued in the third quarter when Brian Buchan put the exclamation point on a 54-yard, 10-drive play with a 3-yard touchdown run.
Baldwin got the ball and scored its only touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run by Anthony Holmes. Coady Bolles’ extra-point attempt failed.
Sneed went to the air again at the end of the third period and connected with Drow for a 11-yard touchdown. Rinehart’s point-after concluded the scoring for the year for Glen Lake, which finished 3-6.
Senior Pat Deering led the Lakers in tackles with 10 while Dyksterhouse had eight. Buchan rushed 13 times for 46 yards.
It was the “swan song” for a good portion of the Glen Lake roster. Seniors who played their final game in a Laker football uniform were Drow, Dyksterhouse, Paul Hall, Aaron Baker, Mike Brown, Buchan, Deering, Corey Frost, Joey Galla, Henry, Josh Jacklin. Dan Nedow, Nick Niergarth, K.C. Novak, Matt Rinehart and Tim Waters.
