The Michigan Farm Service Agency (FSA) has announced eligible farmers who suffered quantity losses to their crops on recent years can now enroll in the Crop Disaster Program 2005-2007 at local FSAs.
The announcement comes a week after the eight Michigan counties were declared agricultural disaster areas due to losses caused by storms with tornadoes, hail and high winds which occurred between July 3 and Aug. 29 of this year.
Although Leelanau County was not among the eight counties under the declaration, it is one of 26 counties named as contiguous disaster areas. This designation makes qualified farmer operators in the affected counties eligible for low-interest physical loss emergency loans from the FSA.
