Ed. note: Twice a month, the Enterprise publishes “Catch a Rising Star” to recognize students who stand out among their peers academically, athletically, artistically or in their attitudes. Students from Glen Lake, Lake Leelanau St. Mary, Leland, Northport, Suttons Bay and those living in Leelanau but attending Traverse City West High School will be featured. Catch a Rising Star is compiled by news editor Amy Hubbell and is published on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month during the school year.

Trevor Stillin, is a senior at Lake Leelanau St. Mary. Trevor, son of Denis & Deborah Stillin of Northport, has two sisters — Erin, a 10th grader at St. Mary, and Casey, who graduated from the school in 2004.
He is not only an excellent student, but strives each and every day to be a good Christian leader in all walks of life. He has great compassion for others and he has a positive impact on everyone around him. Trevor is currently organizing a support drive to aid the “invisible children” foundation, which provides aid and support to Uganda where rebel armies are kidnapping children to become slaves and soldiers against their own people.
Because of his commitment to being an excellent student both academically and morally, the staff at St. Mary feels that Trevor is deserving of this honor,” said St. Mary Principal Mark Gaubatz said.
Favorite Class: Social Studies/History. “I love to learn about the past and see how it is connected to the present,” Trevor said. “I believe that the past also helps you create a possible vision for the future.”
Do you have a role model?: “My pastor is my role model. He is the best example of how to live a Christian life.”
Career Plans: “I would like to be a teacher of social studies. I believe it is important to pass down information to younger generations so that they may avoid the mistakes that my generations and others before me have made.”
Favorite place to hangout: “Braman Hill in Northport. Mostly during the winter because my friends and I play ice hockey and go sledding. There are a lot of things to do with my friends.”
Describe your perfect day — Who would you spend it with, what would you do, where would you be? “A nice fall day in the Keweenaw Peninsula in the Upper Peninsula. I would spend it with my family and friends. My favorite spot is near Copper Harbor overlooking Lake Superior.”
What’s the best book you’ve ever read? The Chronicles of Narnia, the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, by C.S. Lewis. “I like the suspense that the story provides and it has a great Christian moral theme.”
What’s you favorite musician/musical group? “The Newsboys are my favorite group. The music is uplifting and they are a really cool group to see in concert.”
