Two separate requests to split property within the Village of Northport were approved last week by the Village Council.
Council members voted unanimously Thursday night to approve a request from Parkside of Northport, LLC, to split an area equal to approximately four residential lots from the area that had been part of the former Leelanau Memorial Health Center.
The request was made by Parkside, which is seeking financing for an assisted living center through the federal department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Federal regulations require that the property be separate from the remainder of the parcel on which condominiums are proposed, village Clerk Laura Weiss said.
In other business during their second meeting of the month, council members also approved a request from the Dale Brown Trust to divide a parcel roughly 15 acres in size into three lots of about five acres each. The property is located off Kitchen Road near the Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport.
There was no opposition to the request, which will create parcels larger in size than those outlined by the zoning ordinance.
“They could have divided the property into smaller pieces under zoning,” Weiss said.
