A memorial service was held Monday in Traverse City for Leelanau County native Jack Alfred Hahnenberg who died Oct. 23 at Munson Medical Center.

He was 77.

He was born on March 22, 1930, in Lake Leelanau, to Joseph and Ruth (Thorson) Hahnenberg. His first wife, Barbara Ritola-Hahnenberg, preceded him in death. On Jan. 5, 1974, he married Arlene Lautner, who survives.

An Air Force veteran, he was the owner and operator of his family business, started in 1955. He retired in 1996. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, bowling and traveling.

Also surviving are his children, Lucinda (Jim) Lyskawa of Maple City, Thomas (Nancy) Hahnenberg of Traverse City, Joseph Hahnenberg of Grand Rapids, Laura (Scott) Sheldon of Interlochen, and James Haywood of Traverse City; his sister, Dorothy Charles of Traverse City; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hahnenberg; and a grandson.

His cremains were to be buried at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens with military honors. Memorial donations may be directed to Munson Hospice House.
