The Northport Area Heritage Association will host its fourth annual Family History Day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Northport Public School lobby.
Tables are still available for individuals or groups who would like to display information and objects from their family or organization’s history in the Northport area. To reserve a spot, call Martha Roberts by Friday morning at 386-5244.
Roberts said as of Tuesday, displays will include the history of Northport’s Evangelical Covenant Church; postcards showing Northport and the county in the past; videos of the heritage association’s monthly programs; and a DVD of interviews with local residents.
“We have a lot of different, interesting displays. We would love to see more displays from local families,” she said.
In addition to the displays, six antique experts will evaluate and provide estimated values of collectibles, antique and family items. The cost for an evaluation is $5 for each item. The experts are:
• Lisa Drummond of Northport will evaluate Early American items;
• Joe Millard of Northport specializes in paper ephemera and postcards;
• Jay Swink of Northport will evaluate Meerschaum pipes and toys;
• Don Butkovich of Traverse City will evaluate all types of antiques;
• Tammy Treat Lucal of Traverse City specializes in “smalls,” which are small, unusual antique items;
• Rob Lucal of Traverse City will evaluate sports equipment and Native American art.
Roberts said Family History Day is usually well attended. “We don’t charge admission, so people can come and look at some history and get their valuables appraised.”
For those interesting in participating, displays often include a wide range of items, including photos, books, newspaper articles, scrapbooks, and collectibles or antiques.
