Performance events on Sundays slated at Old Art Building.
A new Sunday series of performances will begin Nov. 18 at the Old Art Building in Leland with a gospel duet featuring Marshall and Mary Collins at 3 p.m.
Mary Collins has been playing the piano since her father taught her when she was a young girl. She also learned to play and sing old hymns, and at the age of 15 she played the piano in a church at her home state of Maryland. She later sang as a soloist and in groups in Maryland, California, Florida and Virginia.
In 1967 she married Marshall Collins, and moved to Northport shortly thereafter. Forty years later, the two are still singing in harmony.
Coffee, tea and biscotti will be served after the Nov. 18 concert. A donation of $10 for adults and $5 for students is suggested and will benefit the Collinses and the performance program at the Old Art Building.
The concert will also begin a series of three Sunday performances sponsored by the Leelanau Community Cultural Center. The next concert will be on Jan. 20 with Deb Fayroian on cello and accompanist. The last concert will be in February with “Barefoot Tango,” a nuevo Tango group with demonstrations of the dance.
