1916-2007
Funeral services were to be held today, Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte, for Howard Baisel Saums of Charlotte who died Nov. 4 at the “Just a Whisper” home in Lake Leelanau.
He was 91.
He was born on Oct. 7. 1916, in Eaton County, the son of Glen and Ida (Baisel) Saums. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Ruth Laverty; and his second wife, the former Wilma Hutchens.
He was a veteran of World War II and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years of service. He was a member of the VFW and a very active member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Louis (Jesse) Smith of Charlotte, Joan (David) Brown of Omena; step-children, Sue Wilson of Spring Lake, Mary Ross of Charlotte, Jeff (Kim) Hutchens of Fremont and Don (Missy) Hutchens of Middlville; a sister, June (Ed) Fremody of Charlotte; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and 23 step-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church.
