4-H ski, snowboard program registrations being accepted

The Leelanau 4-H Youth Program is accepting registrations for its annual 4-H ski and snowboard program.

The program, held at The Homestead resort near Glen Arbor, is open to youth in grades 1-12. Beginners as well as advanced skiers and snowboarders are welcome.

The educational club begins the first weekend in January and runs for six consecutive weekends. The required one-hour lessons help participants learn and improve their skills on the slopes. To maximize learning, class size is limited to six students.

New this year, the program will be offered on Fridays as well as the traditional Sunday lessons. On Friday evenings, The Homestead will offer a special class for parents wanting to learn to ski.

Participants do not need to have their own equipment as there is an option to rent skis or a snowboard. A lift ticket for the program can be purchased as well.

Brochures describing the program and registration procedures have been distributed through county schools. To receive a copy, contact the Leelanau 4-H Program at the Michigan State University Extension office in Leland at 256-9888.

The brochure and registration materials are also available at the MSU Extension website: www. msue.mus.edu/leelanau.

The deadline for registration is Friday, Nov. 30.
