Natural Ornament workshop planned

Shielding Tree Nature Center is offering its 15th annual Natural Ornament Workshop at two different locations.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, Nov. 24, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Traverse City District Library. For those seeking a more rustic setting, the event will be repeated at Camp Sakakawea on Bass Lake Road in Grand Traverse County on the following Saturday, Dec. 1.

A donation of $5 per person will enable each participant to create five ornaments using provided materials that have been collected from nature, such as wool roving angels, beeswax stars, and dream catchers. In addition, a spinning demonstration will be provided on both Saturdays by Amy Tyler of the Benzie Spinners Group.

The workshop will be held open-house style, and participants may stop by between 1 and 4:30 p.m. to make ornaments. All ages are invited to attend what’s billed as a “festive family activity.”

All proceeds will benefit ecology programs run by Shielding Tree, which was formally located in Leelanau County and is now headquartered in Traverse City. For more information, call 922-0818.
