Suttons Bay students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grades collected and donated 2,430 pounds of food to the Leelanau Christian Neighbors food pantry in Suttons Bay last week.
In the one-week competition, sponsored by school Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO), students in grades pre-K through three counted the individual items collected, while older students in grades 4 through 8 calculated the ounces and pounds.
Winners in the week-long event were the third grade, which collected 388 individual items, and fourth grade, which collected 467 pounds of food.
Sixth graders and teacher Kate Arvo delivered the food Nov. 14. Helping out were students Shane Francis, Theo Noffsinger, Casey Cross, Jack Collins, Clyde Woods, Logan Mikesell and Connor Priest.
