Two parcels owned by village trustee Fred Thomas and his wife, Sharon, were rolled into one, for purposes related to the municipal sewer system now under construction.
The Northport Village Council, during its second regular meeting of the month, voted 6-0 on Nov. 15, with Thomas abstaining, to approve a resolution to roll the two parcels on East Fourth Street into one for assessment purposes.
The village and Leelanau Township created the special assessment district for assessing parcels to pay for the system. The special assessment district resolution allows property owners to combine parcels under certain circumstances. The properties owned by the Thomases are contiguous, and one parcel does not meet the minimum lot size as required by village zoning.
In other business during the brief meeting, council members:
• Accepted a proposal from Northern Michigan Equipment for use of a new Case 621D loader for four months at a net cost of $7,500. It is the same amount paid by the village last year.
• Learned that health insurance premiums for employees are expected to increase by nearly 20 percent in 2008. Other plans and providers will be discussed at a meeting of the employee relations committee on Monday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m.
