Gladys Angeline Hill

1913-2007

Funeral services were held Tuesday in Traverse City for lifelong Greilickville resident Gladys Angeline Hill who died Nov. 13 at Munson Hospice House. She was 94.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1913, to Richard and Anna (Fox) Lemcool of Greilickville. On Feb. 20, 1932, she married James W. “Bill” Hill who preceded her in death in July 2001.

She lived her entire life on the south shore of Cedar Lake. She attended Norris School through the eighth grade. She and her husband built their first home on Cherry Bend Road. The couple operated a honeybee business, Cedar Lake Apiaries. She helped initiate efforts to secure the first fire truck for Elmwood Township, served two years as PTA president at Norris School and was first president of the Northwest Michigan Beekeepers Association.

She is survived by her two daughters, Ida M. (Jim) Tompkins of Traverse City and Patricia Ann (Pete) Tompkins of Texas; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
