EPA plans update on Greilickville cleanup

An update on cleanup activities, including demolition of a now-vacant building at the former Grand Traverse Overall facility on Cherry Bend Road in Greilickville, will be given tonight at the Elmwood Township hall.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. today, Nov. 29, and be held by officials from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5.

A comment period on the proposed Superfund cleanup plan runs Nov. 29 through Dec. 31. A presentation on the project and the EPA’s proposed long-term activities for the site will be part of the meeting.

Residents can make comments at the meeting, or submit them in writing to www.epa.gov/sites/grandtraverse/index.htm. A fact sheet with more information about the proposed cleanup will be available at the meeting and posted on the website.

Comments can also be directed to Linda Martin, Remedial Project Manager, Superfund Division, EPA Region 5, 77 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60604.

For more information, call EPA community involvement coordinator Don de Blasio at (800) 621-8431, or write to deblasio.don@epa.gov.
