Two Lake Leelanau men, one who was sentenced this week and another who awaits sentencing, will spend significant time in prison for drug-related activities.
Adan Torres, 30, and Jaime Roman, 17, both of 990 S. French Rd., appeared in the 13th Circuit Court Monday before Judge Philip E. Rodgers Jr. on related drug-selling charges.
Torres was sentenced for delivery of cocaine and maintaining a drug house, while Roman pleaded guilty under a plea bargain arrangement to delivery of marijuana. In exchange for Roman’s guilty plea, county Prosecutor Joseph T. Hubbell agreed to drop an additional delivery charge and a charge of maintaining a drug house.
According to court documents, on June 22, July 2 and Aug. 7 an informant working with the regional Traverse Narcotics Team (TNT) purchased a total of 11⁄2 ounces of marijuana from Roman. Through the transactions, TNT officers were able to secure a search warrant for Roman’s house. When police officers searched the house on S. French Road, they found 11⁄2 pounds of marijuana and almost six ounces of cocaine. Torres, who also lives at the residence and was home at the time of the search, was read his Miranda rights and agreed to answer questions. He admitted that all the illegal drugs found in the residence were his, and that he had obtained in Indiana, court documents state.
On the cocaine charge, Torres was sentenced to serve 5-20 years in prison with credit for 80 days serve; $350 costs; $200 fine; $60 state crime victims fund; $50 local crime victims fund; $105 felony state cost; on the drug house charge, to serve 11⁄3-2 years in prison; $350 court costs; $350 fine; sentences to be served consecutively.
Roman, meanwhile, is looking at a maximum penalty of up to four years in prison and/or up to $2,000 in fines.
