The county Road Commission has formally accepted a Bingham Township development’s streets into the county road system.
At its meeting last week, the commission unanimously placed Alpine Meadow Drive and S. Pathways Trail into the official county road system. Clerk Joe Nedow said the two streets will add 3,094 linear feet to the county’s system, which equals about .6 mile.
Developer Thom Darga had previously agreed to build the Pathways’ roads to county road standards. The development will provide 25 houses, with the primary entrance off of Revold Road.
In other business, the commission:
• Heard a presentation from Gene Kelly, who with Leland Township resident Jim Varley has an agreement in place with the County Board to purchase the Leland courthouse property in April 2008.
Kelly and Varley are updating conceptual plans for developing the courthouse property. Kelly came to the Road Commission meeting to discuss the location of a drainage easement on the property.
Commission directed engineer James C. Johnson to continue working with the developer’s engineer to determine a good location for the easement.
• Received an updated proposal for parking at Glen Haven from the National Park Service. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore officials have proposed allowing perpendicular parking along existing buildings in Glen Haven. The proposed change calls from small parking lot areas near the cannery building and would eliminate an existing paved driveway that runs to the east of the building. Nedow said the proposal was sent to the Road Commission for its input with no timetable for implementation.
