1914-2007

Services were held yesterday, Nov. 28, at St. Mary’s Parish of Lake Leelanau, for Leona Isabelle Ross, formerly of Lake Leelanau, who died Nov. 22 at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City. She was 93.

She was born June 17, 1914, in Leland Township, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Hahnenberg) Priest. In 1940, she married William Hohnke who preceded her in death in October 1970. In 1973 she married Robert John Ross who preceded her in death in 1997.

She was a 1932 graduate of the St. Mary School. She then attended business courses and worked at the co-op in Lake Leelanau for eight years. She was an active quilter and worked as an assistant sacristan for 10 years at St. Mary’s Parish.

She is survived by a daughter, Alma Judy (Ahmond) Esfandiary of Washington, D.C.; a granddaughter and a great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Albert, Emil, Arthur, Joseph and two sisters, Hilda O’Brien and Sylvia Kirt.
