The Suttons Bay High School chapter of the National Honor Society is collecting items for its "Supporting Our Troops" campaign.
Junior Jeff Lott is chairing the committee, which is seeking donations of the following items to be sent to Leelanau County troops serving in Iraq. Items will be accepted through Dec. 18 to be mailed out the following day and may be dropped off at the high school media center. Monetary donations are welcomed to help defray shipping costs — $8.95 for each box sent. Checks may be sent to Suttons Bay School, P.O. Box 367, Suttons Bay, MI 49682 with “NHS” in the memo.
Items sought are:
Food and snack items: (Pork is not allowed)
•Gum, Lifesavers, candy, trail mix, power/protein bars, beef jerky;
• Single-serving backs of snacks, crackers, Pringles chips;
• Pop tarts, cereal bars, granola bars;
• Ramen noodles, canned ravioli, tuna or ready-to-eat meals;
• Non-perishable lunch kits;
• Girl Scout cookies;
Beverage Items:
• Coffee mixes, tea, hot cocoa mix, Crystal Light “On the Go” packets to add to water, Airborne “To Go” in packets;
Recreational Items:
•Cards, hacky sacks, handheld games, DVDs;
Communication Items:
•Small pads of paper, envelopes, paper, pens, drawing pads, small blank journals, pocket-size notebooks;
• Disposable cameras
Footcare Items:
• Cotton socks-white, green or black;
• Odor eaters, Lotrimin ointment or cream (no aerosol cans);
• Medicated foot powder, boot liners/insoles;
Toiletry Items:
• Hand sanitizer (small bottles), baby wipes (alcohol free);
• Toothpaste, toothbrushes;
• Deodorant, liquid body wash (no pump-style dispensers);
Comfort items:
• Small travel pillow or inflatable pillows;
• Disposable, instant hand warmers (during the winter);
• Small fleece blankets;
• Magazines;
• Letters, cards of support.
