Two county groups are among six organizations receiving small planning grants announced this week by Rotary Charities of Traverse City.
The Inland Seas Education Association was awarded $5,000, and Suttons Bay and Bingham townships received $2,500 in June. The grants are designed to help organizations with assessments, strategic plans and other planning activities.
The funds granted to the two adjacent townships are being used to hire a consultant and develop a feasibility study to determine the community’s ability to raise funds in conjunction with the purchase of the Herman property for a park, according to Marsha Smith, Rotary Charities executive director.
No other organizations with direct ties to Leelanau were included in more than $500,000 in grant awards announced Wednesday by Rotary Charities.
The deadline for applications for the group’s next grant cycle is March 1, 2008 and includes all grant requests of less than $100,000. Planning grant requests for $5,000 and less are accepted on an ongoing basis.
Potential grant applicants can go to www.rotarycharities.org for more information, or call 941-4010.
