Eleanor I. Randall

1916-2007

A memorial service was held Tuesday at the Leland United Methodist Church for Eleanor I. Randall of Lake Leelanau who died Dec. 5 at her home. She was 91.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 19, 1916, the daughter of Richard and Bess (Cooper) Wiesner. In 1940, in Philadelphia, she married David I. Randall, who preceded her in death in 1979.

She attended East Stroudsburg State College and later Penn State where she met her husband. After raising their four children, she returned to school in her 50’s, finally completing her degree. She and her husband retired to Leland in the early 1970’s. In her later years, she was a Masters age group swimmer, once taking 5th place in the nation in the 100-yard freestyle in her age bracket.

She is survived by her daughters, Helen Evensen-Pollari and Jill Stanley, son Richard Randall and Bruce (Jeanine) Randall, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Violet and Vivian.

Burial will be in the spring at Beechwood Cemetery in Leland. Donations in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Leelanau Conservancy, P.O. Box 1007, and/or to Leland Public Schools, c/o Music Program, P.O. Box 498, both in Leland, MI 49654.
