1920-2007
In keeping with his request, no services have been planned for Franklin W. Rowland Sr. of Leland who died Nov. 29 at Munson Hospice House. He was 87.
Born June 23, 1920, in Chicago, he was the son of Ralph H. and Katherine (Warner) Rowland. On Jan. 29, 1949, he married Martha Rice, who preceded him in death.
Formerly of Dayton, Ohio and Lathrup Village, he had been employed as a radio and television announcer for stations in Dayton and later for WLDM and WJR in the Detroit area, and for WTCM in Traverse City. He then worked in newspaper advertising. A Leland resident since 1982, he enjoyed collecting coins and postcards, but especially loved reading at the Leland Library.
Survivors include his children, Franklin W. (MaryBeth) Rowland Jr., and Katherine (Gary) Twomey, all of Bloomfield, and five grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Holman.
Memorials may be directed to the Leland Township Library, ShareCare of Leelanau, or Munson Hospice House.
