A 1967 Amphicar 770 that doubles as a boat and as a car was left to the Village of Northport by the late Eli “Joe” Alcorn of Omena and Dallas. Village officials took physical custody of the car/boat after the Alcorn estate was settled. Alcorn died one year ago today.

A federal court judge has granted Leelanau Wine Cellars, Ltd., a little extra time to prove that its trade name is being confused with that of another wine company, Chateau de Leelanau.

County officials cleared their first hurdle in efforts to expand the county building in Leland with a favorable interpretation of the Leland Township Zoning Ordinance approved in a split vote Tuesday by the township Zoning Board of Appeals.

Northport teachers have approved a contract that was negotiated over 20 months that provides 3.9 percent raises spread over two years.
Property owned by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7731 in Lake Leelanau is apparently the preferred site of a proposed “community resource center” being pursued by the two-county Health Department.

The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners has learned that work is needed at an outlet dam at Leland and on the Narrows at the Village of Lake Leelanau to “ensure the capacity to control the level of Lake Leelanau in the future”.

Cedar’s Chamber of Commerce has voted against staging any more Polish Festivals because the event “is just too big for a community of 300 persons to handle,” according to Chamber president James Harris.

The County Board of Commissioners has voted to buy a lot from the Leelanau County Historical Society adjacent to the county building for future expansion. The cost is $17,000.

Four of Leelanau County’s six public high schools are facing a serious financial crisis because of a delay in state aid payments.

The recount of gubernatorial votes in Leelanau County ended Tuesday night with the total for Fred M. Alger, Republican, dropping one vote to 2,725 and the total for Gov. G. Mennen Williams standing at 1,194.

The newly originated Suttons Bay Local 429 of the Farmers Union will hold its annual meeting Tuesday evening. Members attending the Farmers Union convention Thursday are Rudolph Eckerle, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Raftshol and Ed Dumas, Suttons Bay.
