A Suttons Bay Township man who allegedly threatened a Grand Traverse Band police officer could spend up to two years in jail for his actions.
Joaquin Alfonseca, 52, of 3815 Ninatigo, Suttons Bay, was arraigned in 86th District Court by Judge John D. Foresman on a charge of assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer. His bond was reduced to 10 percent of $5,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 28 at 10:15 a.m.
According to court documents on Dec. 15 a Grand Traverse Band police officer was sitting in a marked patrol vehicle at a business in Peshawbestown. Alfonseca allegedly approached the officer and started yelling and swearing at him. The officer told Alfonseca to move away from the vehicle when Alfonseca allegedly threatened to physically assault the officer. When the officer started to arrest Alfonseca, he allegedly resisted. At the time of his arrest, Alfonseca registered a .173 percent reading on a preliminary alcohol breath test, documents showed.
If Alfonseca is found guilty of the felony offense, he faces a maximum penalty of up to two years in jail or prison and or $2,000 in fines.
