Hold the record book on that new boys' basketball scoring record at Suttons Bay.
Norsemen coach Ken Hunter thought his squad's 103-68 thrashing over Mesick last week was a new school scoring record. He had no "record book" for reference, and so sought the opinion of two long-time coaches who couldn't remember a team scoring more than 100 points.
And so a new record was reported in news coverage of the win.
Turns out that the 103-point effort may only be enough for second place, as reports emerged of back-to-back 100-point performances by a Suttons Bay team in February, 1994. Enterprise records verified the claim.
The Norsemen, who started that season with 10 straight wins, beat Frankfort 100-57 in a makeup game played Saturday, Feb. 19, 1994. The following Tuesday, they blew out Northport, 108-41. Scott Groesser was the team's scoring leader, tallying 29 and 24 points, respectively.
Suttons Bay finished the regular season with a 16-4 mark, and ended up third in the Northwest Conference at 11-3. Glen Lake and Kingsley tied for the conference title with 12-2 records. The Norsemen, playing for the third year at the Class C level, were eliminated in their first game of the District tournament 66-62 by McBain.

Speaking of Suttons Bay, we are still hearing questions and complaints about leaving the cross country team off a congratulatory page that included football, volleyball and soccer teams.
The Enterprise publishes congratulatory pages after teams have won a district, regional or conference championship. Both the Suttons Bay boys' cross country team and Glen Lake girls’ cross country teams placed third in their regionals, qualifying each to compete at the state meet.
Both are wonderful accomplishments. In addition, runners Ben Wymsma of Suttons Bay and Amber Therrien of Glen Lake received all-state honors. Our congratulations go out to members of both teams.
