The Empire Township Board only had a few items on the agenda for its first meeting of 2008.
The board reviewed an audit of its books for 2007 done by John Tobin of Tobin and Company, based in Traverse City. Clerk Christine Neiswonger said the audit was very favorable to the township.
“It was a good report, we’re doing everything we’re supposed to be doing,” she said. The audit, which is done every year, cost $4,500. Copies of the audit are available for public review at the township offices. To the office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or by appointment by calling 326-5300.
In other business, the board:
• Heard an announcement from treasurer Hal Pendleton that Empire Township is hosting the county chapter of the Michigan Townships Association meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the township hall. The featured speaker is a teacher from The Leelanau School, who will discuss the impact invasive species are having on inland lakes and streams.
The meeting is open to the public.
