Business Professionals teams from S-B, S-M shine in regionals.

BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS of America members from St. Mary (top)
and Suttons Bay (bottom) earned several awards at regional
competition earlier this month.

More than 40 Suttons Bay and St. Mary School students qualified for the state competition of Business Professionals of American with strong performances at regional competition Jan. 5 at Central Michigan University.

Suttons Bay’s parliamentary procedure team, administrative support team and software engineering teams all came away with first-place finishes in the regional competition. The parliamentary procedure team is made up of Molly Branson, Allie Freed, Rachel Farrell, Chase Palmer, Kevin O’Neil, Shane Kaufman, Ben Wynsma and Mark Jasinski. The administrative support team that also earned top honors is comprised of Shane MacDonald, Aimee Plamondon, Max Evans and Blaine Fritz. Sean Riley and Jess Hammersley are members of the software engineering team which also took a first as did Kody Herman as an individual in human resources management.

Lauren Lammy finished second in advanced office systems and procedures. Erin Dingrando and O’Neil were third in prepared speech and parliamentary procedure concepts, respectively. Freed had individual fourth place finishes in desktop publishing and parliamentary procedure concepts. Fifth-place winners were Farrell, medical office procedures; Jasinski, human resources management; Evans, database applications; Krystyn Thornton, fundamental word processing; and Plamondon, advanced office systems and procedures.

Top winners not qualifying for state were Herman, Blake Ibbotson, Reid Klintworth — financial analyst team; Abby Branson, Hildi Forton, Maritza Gardner and Ann Rehyl — small business team; Elliott Evans, desktop publishing; and Anastasia Graham, entrepreneurship and keyboarding.

Twenty-five of St. Mary’s 45 students participating qualified for state competition by placing fifth or better in an assortment of business applications.

First-place winners were the economics research team of Bradi Pasch, Forrest Tarsa and Kayla Schaub. Pasch also had a first place in administrative support research. Tarsa was second individually for economic research.
Adam Furore finished second in information technical concepts and fifth in personal computer troubleshooting, and along with Breanna Korson and David O’Connor earned a second-place finish as a team in website applications. As an individual Korson also earned a second in parliamentary procedure concepts.

Individual first-place honors were earned by Emily Boss for her management presentation; Patrick Arena, legal office procedure; and Martin Mugerian, prepared speech. Mugerian also had a fourth in extemporaneous speech.

Allison Korson earned a second in database applications and a fifth in integrated office. Katherine Miller placed second in advanced word processing and had fifth-place finishes in entrepreneurship and spelling/administrative support. Jacob Plamondon earned recognition in two categories, including database management.

Layton Korson was fourth in payroll accounting, and Lindsey Korson was fifth for her management presentation. Margaret Bailey had a fifth-place finish in keyboarding as did Mary Lingaur in extemporaneous speech and Thomas Eichenlaub in computerized accounting.

Steffanie Priest was second in administrative support research, as was Susan Herman in advanced interview applications. Sean Priest was third in fundamentals of XHTM, and Rachel Shomin fourth in administrative support research

Sarah Schaub was recognized with a second-place in desktop publishing and a third in payroll accounting. Saralyn MacKinnon was second in fundamental word processing and fourth in integrated office applications.

Suttons Bay teacher Stan Pasch serves as the BPA advisor for his students. Mary Ann Korson, Leland technology teacher and St. Mary parent, is the BPA advisor at St. Mary.
