Boy Scouts of Troop 131 will be collecting returnable bottles and cans from neighbors and friends in the week leading up to a special fundraising event slated for Saturday, Jan. 26, at Hansen Foods in Suttons Bay.

Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., on Jan. 26, Scouts will be available to help people carry bags of cans and bottles into the store, and process the items through the store’s recycling machines. Receipts from bottle and can deposits would then be contributed to the troop to help pay for its visit to a Boy Scout ranch in New Mexico this summer.

“We are hoping the community will use this event to clean out any cans that may be lingering from the holidays, and choose to donate those deposit receipts to the Scouts,” said Scoutmaster Bill Queen.
