Building permits worth $519,932 begin new year

As 2008 was getting under way, the Leelanau County Building Inspections Department had issued five new building permits by Jan. 10, with a combined estimated construction value of $519,932.

During the final few days of 2007, the department issued four permits with a combined estimated construction value of $271,130. A detailed article about total figures and building trends for 2007 appears in Sect. 1 of the Leelanau Enterprise.

It was not clear at presstime whether listings of building permits would be published routinely in this newspaper through the rest of 2008 if the State of Michigan takes responsibility from Leelanau County for administering and enforcing the state construction codes and issuing building permits. Earlier this year, the state Construction Code Commission ruled that the state Bureau of Construction Codes should take over those responsibilities from Leelanau County. It was expected that procedures for making building permits available for public review might change – and so, too, might the newspaper’s ability to list all building permits in a timely manner on a routine basis.

Nonetheless, during the latest two-week reporting period spanning the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008, nine new building permits had been placed in a file available for public review at the county’s Building Inspections office in Leland. The estimated construction value of all nine permits totaled $791,062. Following is a list of projects for which permits have been issued, listed by the community in which the work is being done:
