There was plenty of snow Monday for county skiers this week as both the boys' and girls' Glen Lake cooperative ski teams raced to second-place finishes in the first Lake Michigan Ski Conference meet of the season at Crystal Mountain.
Shannon McGovern paced the girls with third-place finishes in both the slalom and giant slalom (GS). She was followed by Sarah Wiesen, who finished sixth in both events. Molly Branson was ninth in the slalom, her sister Abby Branson placed 11th, and Macy Henry took 21st. In giant slalom, Molly Branson finished 12th, Henry was 25th and Abby Branson 26th.
Katie Bramble and Kari Paine skied to first- and second-place finishes in both events to help deliver the team win for Manistee.
In boys’ action, Glen Lake was paced by sophomore Jack Kerby-Miller, who finished third in slalom and fifth in GS. Eric Henry was seventh in GS and 14th in slalom. Kody Herman was eighth and ninth in the slalom and GS, respectively, and freshman Peter Rennie was 10th in slalom and 12th in GS.
Manistee’s boys’ team also took home the team victory and was led by Keegan Janowiak, who finished second in both events behind Bellaire’s Mike King.
The team is off until Jan. 23 when it will race in another LMSC meet at Crystal Mountain.
