1925-2008

Services were held Wednesday at St. Mary’s Parish in Lake Leelanau for Jane Mary Rexroat of Lake Leelanau who died Jan. 20 at Munson Medical Center. She was 82.
She was born Oct. 28, 1925 in Provemont (Lake Leelanau), the daughter of Lawrence and Della (Belanger) Schaub. On June 29, 1946, at St. Thomas Church in Ann Arbor, she married Avery Green Rexroat, who preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1996.
With the exception of 12 years in Ann Arbor, she spent all her life in Leelanau County where for much of her adult life she operated a farm market which featured her homemade jams and jellies. She loved gardening, and was very active in St. Mary’s Catholic Church as a member of the choir, the St. Mary’s Quilters, the Bells of St. Mary’s and many St. Mary’s boards. She also served as president and treasurer of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her six children, Karen (Everette) Peck of Maple City, Deborah Mikowski of Cedar, Cheryl (Julius) Bunek of Lake Leelanau, Janet (George) Dubay of Lake Leelanau, Douglas (Jozell) Rexroat of Lake Leelanau, Melissa (Mika) Lundberg of Traverse City; siblings, Mel (Marie) Schaub, Marv (Edith) Schaub, Terry (Mary Houdek) Schaub, Marcie (Larry) Kedzie, Sarah (Blaise) Korson; 26 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by a grandson and a granddaughter.
Burial will be held in the spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary’s School or St. Mary’s Church, P.O. Box 340, Lake Leelanau, MI 49653, and/or Mass Intentions.
