The Leelanau County Planning Commission held its annual organization meeting Tuesday evening and re-elected Greg Julian of Maple City as commission chairman.
Jay Johnson was elected vice chairman and Kathy Turner chairman pro-tem.
Commission members Don Miller, Tom MacDonald and Turner were named to the commission’s education committee.
The head of the county’ Planning and Community Development Department, Trudy Galla, reported that commissioners also set a meeting schedule for 2008. Regular meetings will continue to be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. except for the last month of the year when the meeting will be held Dec. 16 at 5:30 p.m. just prior to a Leelanau County Board of Commissioners meeting.
Planning Commission members are all appointed by the county Board of Commissioners.
Galla said the only item of new business on the commission’s agenda involved review of a zoning ordinance text amendment for Leelanau Township. Galla said the amendment addressed only “a few cleanup issues.” She said the planning commission voted to send the proposed amendment back to Leelanau Township planners with staff comments and a recommendation for approval.
County planners also discussed the Planning Department’s effort to organize a joint meeting of township and village officials to discuss countywide planning issues, slated for April 16.
Galla said county planners will likely discuss creating a list of goals for 2008 at their next regular monthly meeting on Feb. 26.
