JEFF BOOTHROYD is the wastewater
treatment plant manager for the Village
of Suttons Bay, and a county resident
since 2006.
Name: Jeff Boothroyd.
Town or township of residence: Suttons Bay Township.
Resident of county since: July 2006.
Birth date and place: Sept. 16, 1970, in Kalamazoo.
Occupation: Wastewater treatment plant manager for the Village of Suttons Bay.
Marital status: Married for nine years; no children.
You live in Leelanau County because: “Technically, I live here because I was qualified for my job and lucky enough to get it. A perk of the job is being able to live in Leelanau County.”
Last good movie you saw: “I can’t remember. We keep trying to rent The Bourne Ultimatum.”
Last good book you read: “I read mostly technical books that are pretty boring. The last good book I read was The Total Money Makeover, by David Ramsey.”
If you could trade places with one person for a day, who would that be: “I guess it’s good that I’m not jealous enough of anybody to want to trade places with them. Maybe I would want to trade places with someone who is super-rich.”
Things important to you that you have accomplished so far: “I’ve had a successful marriage, I’ve earned a college degree, I’m debt-free and I’ve earned some professional licenses. It’s also important to me that I’m a homeowner because I like working on my home and I take pride in it.”
What you hope to be doing in 10 years: “Working more in the engineering and design side of my field.”
Things you lose sleep over: “Work. There are thousands of variables in running a wastewater treatment plant and I have to keep a lot of balls in the air all at once. Maybe I care more than I should. But I always want to make sure everything is working well, and I strive for perfection.”
If you could change one thing in Leelanau County, it would be: “I would turn M-22 between here and Traverse City into four lanes, two lanes each way. It’s always a parade.”
Favorite dessert: “Turtle pie.”
Are you a coffee drinker: “Yes. I use Jamaican Blue Mountain Beans from Sam’s Club. I like my coffee black and strong.”
Favorite place in Leelanau County: “We’re still learning our way around Leelanau County, but we’ve really enjoyed Christmas Cove for rock hunting and swimming.”
If you have more time, you would: “Probably read more. There’s never enough hours in the day for me.”
The words that best describe you are: “Ethical with a strong moral compass, hard-working, conscientious and considerate.”
