Omena news

Clay Coste has "retired" from the Omena News column. Thanks, Clay, for your many years of reporting the events from Omena.

Barb Grosmark, from Port Washington, N.Y., has been in town for a couple of weeks, helping her sister Sally Viskochil move into her newly renovated house in Traverse City. Kanda and Harold McKee were in Omena for almost two weeks recently, just barely escaping back to Kentucky before the frigid temps arrived. Eric Hallett is back from his snowmobiling adventures in the U.P. In fact, he may have brought that frigid weather with him. Annie Kimmerly’s nephew, Eddie O’Brien, is visiting his family in Ireland for a few weeks.

Jill and Stewart Smith from Butte, Mont., and Luke Robinson from Cincinnati were houseguests of Les and Debby Disch last week. While here, they visited with Mary Smith and the Rink Smith family. Luke also checked on the progress of renovations at the Rule Cottage. Also sighted visiting Mary Smith were John and Mary Helen Ray of Wilmette, Ill., who were in town spending a few days with Stu and Suzie Mulligan.

Bob and Diane Joyce, and daughter Morgan and son Jack, went to Clio this past Saturday for Bob’s grandmother Beulah Joyce’s 100th birthday.

Congratulations to Lauren Browning, daughter of Jim and Kathy Browning, for making the dean’s list at NMC in her first semester there.

A bit of news to close out the holiday season – the Omena Historical Society’s 4th Annual Holiday Serenade held in the Omena church on Dec. 30 attracted over 100 people to hear six different groups in a one-hour concert. It was a wonderful event for Omena and the area. Thanks to this year’s organizers, Sally Viskochil, Marsha Buehler and Mary Stanton.

Birthday wishes this week to Betty Wheeler and Nancy Gregory.
