All 11 townships in Leelanau County will have multipliers applied to assessed valuations on property this year to bring values up to 50 percent of “true cash value” as required by the state, according to a tentative table announced yesterday by the Leelanau County Equalization Department.

Snowfall during a blizzard totalled some 34 inches at the Leelanau County Road Commission garage at Suttons Bay, where a regular snow measuring device is maintained. Leelanau County Road Commission Engineer James Gilbo estimated the cost of the massive clean-up operation at some $150,000 to the road agency.

Winners of the “Soil Conservation Family of the Year” award for 1953 presented by the Leelanau Soil Conservation District are Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Lindley and son, Roger, of Bingham. The Lindleys operate an 160-acre cherry and dairy farm directly east of Bingham town hall.

Leelanau County voters approved at special election on a 723-548 count the proposal to build a convalescent hospital as an addition to the county infirmary near Maple City.

Directors of the Leelanau Transit Company, in a special meeting Tuesday afternoon, signed a new two-year lease with officials of the Manistee and Northeastern Railway Company.

Frank Fisher, his wife and daughter traveled to Traverse City Saturday expecting to return Sunday morning but wind up piled up in the snow in drifts and closed roads. They did not return until Monday night as the storm was much worse in Traverse City.
