The Zonta Club of Leelanau County is seeking candidates for the "Young Women in Public Affairs Award," a $1,000 scholarship available to any young woman in Leelanau County who will be a June 2008 graduate.
Applicants must attend college or technical school during the 2008-09 school year to be eligible for the scholarship.
The goal of the scholarship is to encourage young women to participate in public and political life. The award will recognize a young woman’s commitment to the volunteer sector, evidence of volunteer leadership achievement, and dedication to the advancement of the status of women. The Young Women in Public Affairs Award looks to young women of today to become leaders of tomorrow.
Applicants are asked to reflect on their lives, their commitment to the communities in which they live, and the role models that have inspired them to become involved in their communities, their school or in a specific prospective career.
Zonta International and its local affiliates established the award to encourage secondary school women to enter careers or seeking leadership positions in social policy-making, government or volunteer organizations.
Applications are available from all high school counselors or by contacting Carol Smith at 922-6281 or at csmith@tbaisd.k12.mi.us.
