An Elmwood Township man is scheduled to appear in the 86th District Court tomorrow to answer a charge of defrauding a client.

George D. Newpower, 58, 13766 S. W. Bay Shore Dr., Traverse City, was arraigned on a charge of contractor giving false sworn statements to secure $200 to $1,000. A pretrial meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 9 a.m., with a preliminary hearing possibly to follow at 9:30 a.m. His bond was continued.

If found guilty of the misdemeanor, Newpower faces a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and or $2,000 or three times the amount of money taken, which ever is greater.
