The county's Michigan State University Extension office is accepting registration for the next scheduled Master Gardener training program, which begins March 13 and will continue through May 29.
Classes will be conducted from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the MSU Northwest Michigan Horticultural Research Station in Bingham Township.
The program offers an opportunity for individuals to increased their knowledge and understanding of a variety of topics such as: best practices for growing flowers, vegetables and fruit; caring for lawns and woody ornamentals; house plant care; diagnosing plant diseases; pest identification and control; and more.
To complete the program, participants must attend training sessions and then volunteer a minimum of 40 hours of horticultural service to the community.
Cost of the program is $250, which includes an 800-page training manual, soil test kit, speakers and facilities.
Those interested in the program are invited to a free information session scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21 at the research station.
