Happy belated birthday to Paul Kokowicz. Sorry, quit pouting, per Stacey.

There is still room for the Polar Dip, according to Phil Deering, so just show up at 2 p.m. at South Bar Lake in Empire Saturday, strip and jump. The emergency services team will be on hand, possibly including psychiatrists. It’s part of Winterfest in Empire this weekend, so go and have some fun.

Don’t miss the Empire Lions Club’s pancake breakfast Sunday, which is part of Winterfest, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Township Hall.

This week’s winner of the Empire Lions Lucky Thirteen drawing is Dennis Taghon. Congratulations.

In keeping with the Lions Club, Nancy Kenny gave a very interesting talk about the discovery of the submarine her father went down on during World War II, and her adventure with the Navy in getting the men and the ship recognized. Nancy is in the process of writing a book, which I am certain will be really interesting.

Get well wishes to Jim Miller, who had a short day trip to Munson. Hope you’re feeling better.

The Glen Arbor Chili Cook-off is Saturday, Feb. 16, on Boone Dock’s deck. Don’t miss it. For information regarding the fishing contest the same day, contact the Sportsman’s Shop in Glen Arbor.

Congratulations to the New York Football Giants; they made my day.
