The four Northwest Conference boys' basketball games on Friday night were also fundraisers for the American Cancer Society.

Coaches wore white basketball shoes, and a collection was taken at the four games to fund cancer research. At Glen Lake’s game against Benzie Central, $232 was collected for the Coaches Against Cancer Program, athletic director Paul Christiansen said.

Glen Lake’s girls’ and boys’ bowling teams beat their opponents from Benzie Central Saturday at Timberlanes in Traverse City.

The girls’ team scored 24 points over their Huskie counterparts. The boys’ team beat Benzie, 27-3.

Leland’s Erin Sneed is 14 points away from reaching the career 1,000-point mark. Coach Jon Kiessel said with Sneed averaging 17.2 points per game, it’s likely she’ll top the mark tonight when the Comets host Traverse City Christian.

The St. Mary girls’ basketball team made honorable mention again this week in Class D in the Michigan High School Basketball Coaches Association poll. It’s the second consecutive week the Eagles have earned this recognition.
