Glen Lake graduate Cassidy Edwards won the women's 10K cross country ski race at last Saturday's White Pine Stampede, but she didn’t see many female racers along the way.

“I didn’t ski with the women racers, I skied with the first and second pack of guys,” said Edwards, 21, a member of the Middlebury (Vt.) College cross country ski team. “It’s always fun to come back and ski in a local race, and I’m honored that I happened to win.”

Edwards won the women’s event in 25:03, more than four minutes ahead of the next closest female racer. She also finished ninth overall.

The 25K and 50K races were eliminated this year because of poor snow conditions.

Edwards won’t be competing in the women’s race at Saturday’s North American Vasa race because she returned to Vermont yesterday to take part in a Middlebury race at Dartmouth College.
