1917-2008

Visitation will be held today, Feb. 7 from 4 to 8 p.m., and Friday, Feb. 8, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary to be prayed Friday at 7 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home at Suttons Bay. In addition, a Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish of Lake Leelanau for Gertrude H. Coyne of Bingham Township who died Feb. 3 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. She was 90.

She was born Aug. 18, 1917 in Bingham Township, the daughter of Peter and Anastasia Morio. On July 10, 1940, at St. Mary’s Parish, she married Bernard Coyne who preceded her in death.

She attended the one room stone school house on Otto Road and was the last surviving student. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1935 and in 1938 graduated from Traverse City State Hospital as a registered nurse. For many years she worked at Munson Medical Hospital.

She is survived by four children: Ruth Ann (John) Koelzer of Kansas City, Mo., Kathleen (Wesley) Gore of Old Mission, Jim (Dianne) of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Barbara (Don) White of Suttons Bay; a sister, Marie Plamondon of Arizona; a brother, Leonard (Teresa) Morio of Bingham Township; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was also predeceased by a brother, Albert.

Burial will be at a later date in Oakwood Catholic Cemetery, Traverse City.
