G-L ski teams end up 2nd in conference

Glen Lake's boys' and girls' cooperative ski teams each finished second overall in the Lake Michigan Ski Conference based on their performance at the final league ski race Feb. 6 at Crystal Mountain.

Manistee repeated as conference champion and was followed by Glen Lake, Benzie Central, Bellaire and Onekama.

Sophomore Jack Kerby-Miller of Glen Lake was third in both the slalom (combined time of 47.95 seconds) and giant slalom (39.33). Teammates Eric Henry and Kody Herman were eighth and ninth in the slalom, respectively, with times of 51.91 and 52.71. Peter Rennie was 11th in the slalom and Kai Neller was 29th overall.

In giant slalom, Herman and Henry were 10th and 11th, respectively, Rennie was 15th and Neller was disqualified.

Kerby-Miller was third overall in the conference based on his performance at the five league meets this season. Other top-10 Laker skiers were Henry (seventh), Herman (eighth) and Rennie (10th).

Two of Glen Lake’s five female skiers were medal winners in the top 10 this season, as Shannon McGovern took third and Sarah Wiesen 10th.

At last week’s meet, Molly Branson was the top Laker finisher in slalom with a fifth-place time of 1:04.1. McGovern was sixth, Wiesen eighth, Abby Branson 18th, and Macy Henry 20th.

McGovern was the top Laker skier in the giant slalom with a third-place finish. Wiesen and Molly Branson tied for 12th with a time of 45.65, Henry was 21st and Abby Branson 24th.

Both teams were scheduled to participate in regional competition today.
