Whittaker may play at Calvin.

While he has made no official announcement, Leland senior Marcus Whittaker may be playing basketball at Calvin College in Grand Rapids next season.

Whittaker, who is averaging nearly 20 points per game and is connecting on 60 percent of his two-point shots, “has visited Calvin, and talked to the coach. He likes it there,” said Comet coach Jason Stowe. Whittaker is a 6-foot-5 forward for who has been electrifying Leland crowds with his thunderous dunks, including two Saturday in a win over Kingsley.

One reason for his preference might be a strong family tie. Whittaker’s mother, Kim, attended Calvin, Stowe said.
